Course Catalog

St. Mary's is an independent college-preparatory day school. It was opened in 1865 in Jacksonville by the Sisters of the Holy Names to serve all students in the Rogue Valley area. The school's mission is to provide a community in which intellectual curiosity and academic excellence combine with Catholic and democratic values to inspire and prepare local, national, and global citizens.

Upper School Program

The focus in the High School Program is on college preparation. An emphasis is placed on analytical thinking, student research, writing, and concept mastery. Ethical decision making skills are integrated into all aspects of the program.

Middle School Program

The focus in the Middle School is on providing a student-centered, developmentally appropriate, and intellectually challenging curriculum for grades 6-8.  Daily advisor group meetings, small classes, and dedicated teachers who understand the cognitive, social, and emotional needs of young adolescents help to ensure that every student is challenged and supported.  We strive to create an environment that encourages academic growth and curiosity, promotes skill development and critical thinking, and fosters a love of learning.

Our Accreditation

St. Mary’s is registered with the State of Oregon and is accredited by the National Association of Independent Schools, the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges, the Pacific Northwest Association of Independent Schools, and National Catholic Education Association. The school also holds membership in the following organizations: National Association of Secondary School Principals, Educational Records Bureau, Oregon Federation of Independent Schools, Oregon School Activities Association, Independent School Consortium, Council for the Support and Advancement of Education, National Association of College Admissions Counselors, and Pacific Northwest Association of College Admissions Counselors.

"My time at St. Mary's was profound, engaging, busy, and community based. I loved that our teachers always felt our activities were a compliment to our lives not a hindrance to the school. If you're looking for a great education experience, embracing faculty, the ability to participate in sports, theater, music, art and your academic curriculum all at the same time, then St. Mary's is the place for you." Kelsey Gross, Claremont McKenna College, Class 2009
